2015 End Of Year Book Survey

Happy New Year!! It's that time of year where I do the End of Year book Survey! I remember doing it this time last year and how much fun it was so I definitely wanted to do it again.
(Quick shout out to perpetualpageturner.com for creating this)

In 2015, I went through quite a few book slumps and didn't read that many *fantastic/out of this world/amazing* books compared to last year. But, that being said the fantastic/out of this world/amazing books that I did read were exactly that. And also, I found that my opinions of some books have changed. I would've loved the book in 2014 if I had read it then but in 2015 it wasn't as amazing as I thought it would've been. So basically I became a little more critical and I think that's simply because of the amount of similar books I've come across.

Anyway,  let's get to the Survey portion of the post and if you make it to the end then you are a trooper, my friend! Enjoy.

Review: The Deal by Elle Kennedy

Title:
The Deal (Off-Campus #1)
Author:
Elle Kennedy
Cliffhanger:
NO (Standalone)
Genre:
Romance, New Adult, Contemporary, Humor, College, Sports (Hockey)
Rating:
5++ STARS
She’s about to make a deal with the college bad boy...

Hannah Wells has finally found someone who turns her on. But while she might be confident in every other area of her life, she’s carting around a full set of baggage when it comes to sex and seduction. If she wants to get her crush’s attention, she’ll have to step out of her comfort zone and make him take notice... even if it means tutoring the annoying, childish, cocky captain of the hockey team in exchange for a pretend date.

...and it’s going to be oh so good.

All Garrett Graham has ever wanted is to play professional hockey after graduation, but his plummeting GPA is threatening everything he’s worked so hard for. If helping a sarcastic brunette make another guy jealous will help him secure his position on the team, he’s all for it. But when one unexpected kiss leads to the wildest sex of both their lives, it doesn't take long for Garrett to realize that pretend isn't going to cut it. Now he just has to convince Hannah that the man she wants looks a lot like him.

Are you looking for a New Adult Book to read? Preferably a college romance? Maybe with a little sports in it? And a Cocky jock... sarcastic heroine? Humor? Something a little different than your usual college romance? Well, The Deal is just what you're looking for.

This was brilliant! Just want I needed, just what I was looking for! It's really difficult to find a refreshing enjoyable New Adult Story without feeling like you've already read it. I've read way too many NA books and I think I have exhausted the genre to the point where I had to take a break from it. But then something like The Deal comes around and it restores that giddy overly satisfied feeling. It restores my faith in the NA genre. I can honestly say The Deal is now one of my favorite NA read... yes, it reached that status.

Hannah Wells is a music major, smart, sarcastic, funny, pretty laid back and all around a pretty cool girl. She's crushing on this guy and really wants him to notice her but instead the jock, a known ladies man in campus, notices her... well notices her A on her midterms.

Protect your family. At all costs.

It’d take the impossible to hurt Connor Cobalt, even for a moment.

Protect your family. At all costs.

At twenty-six, his narcissistic tendencies have made room for the people he loves.

Protect your family. At all costs.

And he loves Rose. But when his love is threatened, when his greatest dreams with her are compromised — what is the cost then?

Protect your family. At all costs.

Love will guide his choices.
For the first time in his life.

**AUTHORS' NOTE**
It's possible to only read the Calloway Sisters spin-off series without reading the Addicted series, but you MUST read Hothouse Flower (Calloway Sisters #2) before reading Fuel the Fire (Calloway Sisters #3).

It's highly recommended to read the books in the recommended reading order, which is in tangent with the Addicted series. If you choose not to read Addicted After All before Fuel the Fire, there will be a time jump.

Fuel the Fire picks up in the Addicted Timeline where Addicted After All ended. FTF will not retell past events from Addicted After All in Rose & Connor's POV. All new material

Love. It meant nothing to him.
Now it's guiding his choice.

I thought Kiss The Sky/Addicted After All were my favorite books... but I'm one hundred percent sure Fuel The Fire just took first place.

I am absolutely in love with these characters and I have no idea how I'm going to say goodbye to them for good.

This review will probably contain a lot of rambling and will probably be really long so bear with me guys. I just need to get it all out.

Okay, I'm not going to focus on the depressing thoughts just yet so moving onto the book: Fuel The Fire.

Krista and Becca Ritchie are hands down two of my favorite authors. I have never come across a story, a series in fact that has captured my heart the way the addicted/Calloway sister's series has. It didn't just capture my heart, it's not just about loving these characters, it's about what they all represent. What the stories represents, the messages that come across from these stories, the way they all love each other, the way families interact. It explores sexuality, the media, pop culture, feminism, love, family relationship, friendship, depression, identity etc. It's everything I've ever wanted to read all put down into magical words! That's captured my mind and soul and I don't care how cliche, and cheesy that sounds, that's exactly how I feel when I'm in the addicted world.

Release day, Review & Giveaway: Blackest Red by P.T. Michelle

Hello fellow readers. It's here! Blackest Red is finally here! Welcome to the RELEASE DAY BLITZ! There are teasers, a review and a giveaway in this post! I remember reading the ARC's of Mister Black and Scarlett Red and was utterly surprised at how much I loved the series.  My only complaint about the first book was that it was short. I seriously had nothing else to complain about. I couldn't think of a complaint for the second book other than the fact that I didn't like a certain character (when you or if you've read it you'll probably know who I'm taking about. That guy... you know at the end. *wink wink*)

The mystery factor in these books were spot on for me. There was suspense, thrill, hot chemistry, banter, a smart rational heroine, a caring, dominant hero, romance. It hit all the right boxes! So, as soon as I found out I can request an ARC for the Blackest read I jumped at the opportunity and you know what? I was not disappointed! P.T Michelle did a fantastic job with this series and I hope you all will enjoy it just as much as I did. You can check out my review for Mister Black, Scarlett Red. if you wish. Also, to enter the giveaway scroll to the bottom of this post. Onto the review:

BLACKEST RED is the passionate and explosive conclusion to the IN THE SHADOWS series

No matter how hard I’ve tried to let go of Mister Black, the memories of us together torture me. They’re an unforgettable reminder of a life I can’t have for many reasons.

Burying myself in work mostly keeps thoughts of him to a screaming minimum, until he's thrust into my life under circumstances beyond my control. Despite my need for his protection, this time I’m not sure if I’m strong enough to survive with my heart intact.

He is Black: a fierce protector and irresistible charmer.

I am Red: a trouble magnet and rainbow weaver.

Together we ignite. Explosive colors merging at the hottest melting point.

NOTE: BLACKESTRED is meant for readers 18+ due to mature content. This is part 3 in the IN THE SHADOWS series and is approximately 369 print pages. The series must be read in the following order: MISTERBLACK (part 1), SCARLETTRED (part 2), and BLACKESTRED (part 3).

Review:
(Review was written straight after having read the book... so uh, excuse any rambling and over-excitement)

Have you ever come across a series where the first book was fantastic and then the second book was even better and then the third book smashed it? Well this is it. The In The Shadows series did just that, I absolutely loved Blackest Red and what a fitting title!

The series was such a refreshing read and so well written I couldn't possibly fault it. I know I've mentioned this in most of my reviews that I love a good thriller mystery incorporated with romance type of novels but I have to say it again. I love a series with a good romance and a good mystery, suspenseful storyline. The romance never over-powered the mystery storyline and vice-versa. I thought it was a perfect balance. In some cases when the romance kind of sucks you fall back on the other storyline. Or if the storyline sucks then at least the romance will keep you reading. With Blackest Red every aspect of it kept me reading till the very end.

Blackest Red takes place six months later. After Talia left Sebastian at the resort she picked herself up and wrote a mystery novel about what had happened to her in that book. It's kind of an inception thing if you really think about ha. A book where the main character is a writer who writes a book about what happened to her in the book I'm reading.  Does that even make sense? I have no idea. Back to the storyline: Talia's been getting threatening letters and notes from a mysterious person regarding her book so her publishing house decides to get her a body guard for her upcoming book tours and signing... and guess whose security firm they used? BLACK corps. And Guess who showed up? Sebastian freakin' Blake of course!

** New York Times, USA Today, and International Bestselling series! **

We all have someone who crossed our path and fundamentally changed us. That one person who blew through our lives, their presence forever stamped on our psyche. They linger in our thoughts, in our hearts, and in the decisions we make. A soul crusher or a dream maker, depending on the perspective.

My person is MISTER BLACK.
I didn’t know him by that name when I first met him.
I didn’t know him at all, but the impression he left behind was just as powerful as the name I call him today.

He is Black: a deadly enforcer and masterful seducer.
I am Red: a justice bleeder and willing participant.
Together we are passion. Colors colliding through each other’s lives.

When our secrets converge in a passionate encounter,
stepping out of the shadows just might be worth the risk
.

Well this was a surprising read. I wasn't sure what to expect but I'm glad I read it! I LOVED it. The only issue I had was that it was a short, a quick read. I wanted more.

Talia was an awesome female lead character. She had a lot of baggage but I'm so glad she didn't use the whole baggage thing to dictate her life. The way this book started captivated me straight away, the whole mystery of it has you questioning what the circumstances are. The interaction between Talia and the mysterious man that saved her stayed with them both, especially Talie, when they both moved on with their lives.

Cover, Trailer Reveal & Giveaway: Blackest Red by P.T. Michelle

Hello fellow readers! COVER REVEAL DAY! I'm so excited for the third installment of this series. I didn't know I'd love Mister Black and Scarlett Red as so much as I did. It was such a refreshing read with a somewhat Alpha-male and a sassy heroine too. She can dish it out just as much as him and Talia is also very clever too. Both Talia and Sebastian are pretty amazing separately but together they are explosive!

So, if you're a fan of the series you might be as excited as I am to finally see what the cover for the third book looks like and the little teaser and trailer. And if you haven't read Mister Black and Scarlett Red: READ IT!

Watch the IN THE SHADOWS series trailer for the exclusive cover reveal of book #3, BLACKEST RED!

Review: Bright Side by Kim Holden

Hey Everyone! Before I actually get to the review portion of the post I just want to say this: If I had read this last year I would've added this to my list of best reads of 2014. I've actually added it to my list of top 5 best books I've ever read. Yes, I went there. I really do hate labeling a book my favorite book but Bright Side took my breath away. It had made me open my eyes to a lot of things. *Whispers* Do Epic.

I finished reading this two nights ago and am still trying to reel from it! I NEED TO GET MY SHIT TOGETHER but bloody hell it's hard. Sigh.

If my review sounds like I'm rambling or too long or whatever I don't know just weird? It's because I wrote it as soon as I finished the book, through tears and a wayward of emotions. I wanted my initial reaction to the book to be captured and the best way to do that is through writing. Someone on facebook told me that a good cry cleanses the soul or some shit... Hahaha i'll go with or some shit

Lol okay, enough with my rambling (again). The Review to Bright Side is below :)

Secrets.
Everyone has one.

Some are bigger than others.
And when secrets are revealed,
Some will heal you ...
And some will end you.

Kate Sedgwick’s life has been anything but typical. She’s endured hardship and tragedy, but throughout it all she remains happy and optimistic (there’s a reason her best friend Gus calls her Bright Side). Kate is strong-willed, funny, smart, and musically gifted. She’s also never believed in love. So when Kate leaves San Diego to attend college in the small town of Grant, Minnesota, the last thing she expects is to fall in love with Keller Banks.

They both feel it.
But they each have a reason to fight it.
They each have a secret.

And when secrets are revealed,
Some will heal you …
And some will end you.

One of the best books I've read in a while. Kim Holden blew me away with this book. She  became one of my favorite authors over night.

After I read a really emotional story I promise myself to never read a book that messes with me emotionally. I take that shit to heart and it really fucking hurts. But of course I'm excellent at breaking my own promises and I went for this book. I read a few reviews and a lot of people ugly cried. (That should've been a warning) So initially I got prepared for the worst. But dammit I didn't prepare enough.

I didn't realize I was going to Love Kate Sedgwick the way I did.
I didn't realize I'd fall head over heels in love with Gus.
I didn't realize Keller Banks was going to capture my heart the way he did.

I wasn't prepared enough.
